Lawrence Stich and Family - Mid 1900's
Unfortunately, we believe this is a picture of the Stich family in mourning. Dark dresses in sepia photos are not always black in color. Yet the lady seated center and the front left seated ladies, both have dark lace around the collar, which is a strong clue that they are in mourning.
Sarah Byrnes on the far right has a white collar, though, which may indicate a further-away relation to the deceased. The men are not wearing mourning armbands as far as we can see here. Theresa, the front left lady, has sleeves were very much 1906-1907 in styling - slightly shorter, full upper arm.
Theresa Karl seated in the center has a blouse that is very appropriate for early 1900s, including the sleeve style and front buttons. All the skirts we see have many vertical seams or trim, which is in line with the mid-1900s as the skirt began to slim down. Still fullness, of course, which supports the 1906-07 date. Women’s hair with swoop and top knot began circa 1899 and ran through to early 1910s. The men’s sack coats are very Edwardian, first decade of 20th century.
Thank you Author Matthew Stich for identifying family members (see bottom Group photo).
